Amy Gutmann was a "casual Penn President" at her Halloween party Wednesday night.

Gutmann, who has dressed up as Glinda the Good Witch, Willy Wonka and the Statue of Liberty in previous years, noticeably stood out this year dressed in Penn winter apparel.

She attributed the costume change to the cold weather.

One thing, though, didn't change: the candy.

"The food and the candy was so popular that we brought it back by popular acclaim," she said, referring to her Willy Wonka-themed party of 2005. As a result, "there was a lot of every variety of sugary candy, including big gumballs [and] a chocolate-mousse fountain."

Despite disappointment from some students over a less-ornate theme for the Halloween party, Penn President Amy Gutmann was happy with the spooky "haunted tent" themed soiree.

"There were huge numbers of students who came," Gutmann said. "They liked the candy and the festivities, so I was pleased."

Wynn Commons, the new location for the annual party, allowed for an increased student turnout, Gutmann said.

She does not yet know if the new location will be kept for next year's party.

For Gutmann, however, the treats are the most important part of Halloween: "I prefer the candy to the costumes," she said.
