Economics professor Rafael Robb resigned from the University yesterday, a day after he pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of his wife, Ellen.

In the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas Monday, Robb admitted to killing Ellen in the couple's Upper Merion home on Dec. 22, 2006.

After Rafael Robb pleaded guilty, the University asked that he resign. His resignation is effective immediately.

Robb said in court that he killed Ellen Robb with an exercise bar after the couple had an argument. Rafael Robb said he was worried that their daughter, Olivia, would not return from an upcoming trip before the end of Christmas break and would have to miss school.

Robb is currently awaiting sentencing at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. He could face 10 to 20 years in prison, though standard sentencing guidelines call for 4 1/2 to 6 years in prison.
