Police have arrested three men in connection with the Monday-morning shooting of a disc jockey at a local strip club.

The men are expected to be charged with assaulting the disc jockey, who was then allegedly shot by another patron at Club Wizzards, located at 38th and Chestnut streets.

They were arraigned late last night but police would not immediately release their names.

The DJ, who police say attempted to break up a fight before he was shot, remained in critical condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania yesterday.

Police had not yet released his name.

At about 12:10 a.m., the men allegedly turned on the DJ when he was attempting to break up a fight involving them, and one suspect shot the DJ twice, killing him, according to police.

That suspect, identified as Larry Sanders, 23, of the 500 block of N. 54th Street, was later shot and killed by Penn Police, who responded to calls from people outside the club, and the others involved in the fight were taken into custody.

Wizzards remained closed yesterday under a Department of Licenses and Inspections cease operations order, and owner Steven Paik could not be reached for comment.

Wizzards employees, who were cleaning the club yesterday, refused to comment, but one did say that the club would reopen, though he would not say when.

"Wizzards will reopen" Where is the old-fashioned student activism and outrage about this? All Penn students, and especially women's groups on campus, should begin round-the-clock protests in front of this sleazy joint until Palk sells it and it is closed down permanently. (Continued…)

The felony-murder doctrine applies here. A person killed during the perpetration of a felony becomes murder, even if the cops are the shooters and the deceased is one of the perpertrators. (Continued…)
