Michael Bloomberg named Commencement speaker
New York mayor will speak; 6 others to receive honorary degrees

New York Mayor and Bloomberg LP founder Michael Bloomberg will speak at this year's Commencement ceremony, according to a University press release.
Penn's 252nd Commencement will be held on May 19 at Franklin Field.
Bloomberg is now serving his second term as mayor and is credited with reducing crime and creating jobs in New York.
"We are honored that Mayor Bloomberg has agreed to speak at Penn's 252nd Commencement," University President Amy Gutmann said in the press release. "His remarkable achievements as a highly successful entrepreneur, noted philanthropist and tireless public servant stand, in the tradition of Penn's founder Ben Franklin, as an inspiration to us all."
Honorary degree recipients include Paquito D'Rivera, Drew Gilpin Faust, Lila R. Gleitman, Bert W. O'Malley, Cyril Ramaphosa and Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Since the Reform Party of Pennsylvania IS ALREADY CIRCULATING PETITIONS WITH Michael Bloomberg's Name as A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, this is OBVIOUSLY A SHAM. (Continued…)

Good choice. As an 2007 grad, I'm jealous. James Baker was a bore who gave a generic speech about why Reagan, Bush and Churchill were great. Bloomberg at least is interesting and isn't ashamed to just talk about more down to earth things. (Continued…)
