News Brief: 'Bonnie' sentenced in ID-theft scam

Jocelyn Kirsch - a former Drexel University student and the ex-girlfriend and identity-theft scam partner of 2005 Penn alumnus Edward Anderton - was sentenced on Friday to five years in prison.
A federal judge also ordered Kirsch to pay $100,000 in restitution and to be supervised by a probation officer for five years after she is released from prison.
This summer, Kirsch and Anderton both pleaded guilty to six charges, including money laundering, conspiracy and aggravated identity theft. The pair has been dubbed the "Bonnie and Clyde" of identity theft.
From September 2006 to November 2007, Kirsch, 23, and Anderton, 26, organized an identity-theft scheme in which they stole information from their family, friends and co-workers in order to get fraudulent credit cards.
Authorities say they ultimately stole about $116,000 from their victims and had intended to steal at least $122,000 more.
Anderton is set to be sentenced on Nov. 14.

This case has been watched closely and should help send a message that identity theft will not be tolerated.
